Narrative close upFrom Lovers

Werger's most recent work continues to explore the genres of imagery that have occupied his investigations over the last forty years. Additionally, his subject matter has expanded to include imagery of the beach. Starting with studies of waves, he takes the most transient moments and freezes the action for a prolonged study of texture, pattern and form.

In the latest incarnations, the six panel panoramic piece “Tidal Shift” and the color diptych “Ebb and Flow”, the focus shifts to figures on the beach. At first appearance these images appear bucolic but there is a subtle subtext that the participants are oblivious to the forces of the nature, the rising ocean and the impending consequences of their indulgences.
